Ask a Question
Lenin responded to the collapse of war communism with a temporary "retreat" -- a return to markets. Think about what it was, why he chose the policies he did, and what the immediate effect on the economy and society was, as well as the longer-term implications. Do not forget the limitations on property built into NEP, the issues faced, and the hopes for evolution toward communism. How might state stores “stimulate competition” and encourage “enlightened” thinking (from the P.O.V. of the Soviet leadership); how might private stores “stimulate competition,” and what other effect might private stores have; and could both “stimulate competition” simultaneously?
